The 6 Pillars of Convergence are guiding principals for building participatory agency and learner-centered spaces.
The pillars are not only life and learning skills, but habits of mind, behaviors and dispositions that young people embrace as they begin to participate actively, responsibly and meaningfully in the world.
They are also guiding principles that can be harnessed by leadership, parents and teachers order to build a new culture of student-centered learning inside their schools. The pillars and the new culture of learning map closely to priorities outlined in the Common Core State Standards, the Deeper Learning movement and the Partnership for 21st Century Skills. The new culture of learning recognizes the importance of critical thinking, applied problem-solving, collaboration and creativity over memorization of content and knowledge consumption.
This year, grade level teams are choosing a pillar to focus on for each quarter, which will provide a lens through which to view their instruction and reflection.
